New timely communication standard – what you need to know

Your professional association included a new timely communication standard in the amendments to the Rules of Cooperation that took effect on August 1, 2024.

The new rule, under the Professional Conduct section 6.08, states, “A Member shall communicate with other Members in a timely and effective manner”.

The intent is to establish a clear standard that members with active listings must respond to queries and communicate about their listing in a timely manner.

Learn more about what this means, and how you can report members who aren't following the new standard.

Help us test a new FINTRAC tool

We're partnering with FTC, a financial software company, to deliver a new FINTRAC compliance tool that uses ID verification through the Interact Network. We're looking for six to eight brokerages to help us pilot it.

Here are some key details:

  • If you're selected to participate, you'll meet with FTC at the upcoming PacificWest conference to discuss how it'll work.  If you are unable to attend the conference, other arrangements can be made for your brokerage to participate.
  • The pilot program will have participating brokerages using and providing feedback on the tool through the end of 2024. We're looking to fully launch the tool in 2025.

This partnership is part of GVR's commitment to improve the broker toolkit and help make FINTRAC monitoring and compliance easier.

Interested brokers should contact James Lindow at jlindow@gvrealtors.ca for more details.

Stay vigilant - multiple lockbox thefts reported across Lower Mainland

We've received reports of multiple lockbox thefts, including at least one in GVR’s area.

One of the thefts occurred outside of a Langley brokerage. We're encouraging any members who have lockboxes affixed outside any brokerages ensure that their lockboxes are still there.

So far, we haven’t received any reports that the thieves have gained access to any properties associated with the stolen lockboxes.

If your lockbox is stolen, we strongly recommend you contact your local police force’s non-emergency line to file a report.

On behalf of myself and everyone at GVR, we offer our thoughts and condolences to the family and colleagues of Yuk-Ying Anita Mui.
