The inaugural PacificWest Conference was a success
Last week, over 1,200 real estate professionals from across the Lower Mainland came together at the Vancouver Convention Centre to learn what's next in real estate at PacificWest.
The conference brought together thought leaders and industry experts for three days of social events, seminars, and more. It was an inspiring celebration of our profession, with great opportunities for education, professional development, and networking.
Beyond seminars, panels, and workshops on regulatory changes, market forecasts, and the structure of organized real estate, the conference explored disruptive technologies, the rise of Indigenous developers, and the future of what it means to be a REALTOR®.
Over 90 exhibitors also demonstrated their goods and services at the attached trade show, helping Realtors find new potential technologies and services to help them serve their clients better.
PacificWest will be back next year. Whether you attended and enjoyed yourself, or you missed it, next year's conference promises to be bigger and better so stay tuned for more details.
Listen to and share our latest Standards Matter podcast with the members in your office
Ben Franklin once said, “Drive your business. Let not your business drive you.” But for REALTORS®, who are in the people business, this advice can be a difficult line to walk. What your client wants may put you on the wrong side of our rules.
In episode 9 of Standards Matter, we look at a case where a client’s request went a little too far, and a Realtor’s reluctance to say “no” had dire consequences.
This episode also features advice from REBGV’s Ethics Guy® Kim Spencer on how to walk the fine line between customer service and professional standards. He also discusses the “why” behind the rules, giving his perspective on the reason behind the standards we work within.
Listen below.

Each episode of our Standards Matter podcast reviews real disciplinary cases from REBGV’s Professional Conduct Committee to help you understand the issues and scenarios that cause some members to breach the rules of our profession.
If you have a question about rules, standards or professionalism in real estate that you’d like us to answer on the podcast, email standardsmatter@rebgv.org.
REBGV no longer servicing card-only lockboxes
As SentriLock prepares to discontinue supporting their older card-based lockboxes in the new year, we’re no longer providing support for these lockboxes. Card-based lockboxes, and the accompanying SentriCards that worked with them, will be retired on January 1, 2024.
While many of these lockboxes still technically work, without support they’ll eventually become unusable. You won’t be able to transfer ownership, update the lockbox firmware or troubleshoot issues that might arise with an unsupported lockbox.
Please keep these issues in mind if you’re considering purchasing one of these older lockboxes from a colleague.
If you have questions or concerns about older lockboxes, contact Member Relations at 604-730-3090. If you need help servicing an older card-only lockbox, contact SentriLock support at 513-618-5800 or support@sentrilock.com.
The most current lockboxes SentriLock use Bluetooth technology and are primarily controlled using their new app, Sentrikey. You can purchase one of these Bluetooth lockboxes from Member Relations.
With the SentriKey app, you can:
- receive instant notifications related to lockbox usage,
- customize showing instructions,
- manage contacts and track access,
- and more.
The app is free to download in the Google Play and Apple App stores. You can access the app using the same login information as the SentriCard utility program or SentriLock’s website.
