Notice of Annual General Meeting on March 24

Your Board's Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place at 10 am on Friday, March 24, at the Delta Hotel Burnaby, 4331 Dominion Street. This is a hybrid event, meaning you can attend in person or virtually.

This year, members will vote on a special resolution to modernize REBGV’s constitution. REBGV Chair Daniel John explains more about the proposed changes in this recent message.

At the meeting, Daniel and I will also provide updates on what’s happening at the Board and within the profession.

I hope to see you there!

Change starts with a conversation: "I was scared"

While at a photo shoot for her condo listing, residents within the complex singled out REALTOR® Marce Miller for suspicious behaviour while she was simply conducting routine business activities for her client. Marce shares her story in the latest video in our series, A Different Side of Real Estate.

Listen to Marce's story:

A Different Side of Real Estate is REBGV’s video series that’s part of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program. In this series, we seek to share perspectives and spark conversations that can help create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all people involved in real estate.

I encourage you to share this video with your colleagues in the profession. Start a conversation and spark change today.

How to prepare for BCFSA’s new team rules coming April 1

BCFSA has announced new rules for real estate teams that will take effect from April 1, 2023, which include new registration and advertising requirements, as well as an end to all team registration exemptions.

Real estate professionals on a team or those who have a business model that involves assistants or other REALTORS® should review BCFSA's team guidelines to understand how the new rules could impact their current business model and to register as a team before April 1 if necessary.

The Lede blog: Rate hikes part I - where to from here?

In the latest edition of The Lede, our Director of Economics and Data Analytics, Andrew Lis’s blog, looks at the latest information from the Bank of Canada that indicated a 'conditional pause' on any further policy tightening. But what does this mean, and what would cause them to reverse course?

Read Andrew's insights and share this article with the members in your office.

MLS® in March: Help us evaluate new products, new fields on sales report forms

We’re looking for volunteers to attend an online focus group in March to share perspectives on new products and services we’re researching.

Space is available for REALTORS® and Brokers in our one-hour sessions that will take place on March 8 and 9 .

If you’re interested, email James Lindow at jlindow@rebgv.org and he’ll set you up with an invite.

We’re also adding two new fields to the sales report form in March. We’ll let you know as soon as the updated forms are available.

You’ll report the buyers postal code and the subject removal date on the updated form when it’s available. Tracking subject removal dates will make it easier to assist with BCFSA data calls like the one I shared with you in the last Broker Update.

Questions? Email James.

Our Arbitration Committee seeks to resolve disputes between members. Review their latest rulings (Arbitration Cases #156 and #190).

Remembering Brian Friedrich

Brian Friedrich, a past appointed director with REBGV and principal of friedrich & friedrich corp., passed away unexpectedly in January. He was 52.

Brian made invaluable contributions to REBGV as a public director from 2015 to 2021. He also served on our audit committee from 2018 to 2023 and chaired the committee over the past two years. He also authored a report on professionalism that I’m very excited to release to members in March.

Read our tribute online and join me in expressing my most sincere condolences to Brian’s family and friends.
