$34,000 raised for REALTORS Care® Shelter Drive charities
The REALTORS Care® Shelter Drive raised $34,000 for three housing charities in Metro Vancouver during 2022-23.
The Shelter Drive is an initiative developed by REBGV REALTORS® to raise funds for housing-related charities within Metro Vancouver each year.
This year, for the first time, the Shelter Drive has taken 20 per cent of the fundraising total to deposit in our Vancouver Foundation fund. This fund was created in 1983 by REBGV and the interest earned has helped fund shelter-related charities over the years. By adding to the fund’s capital, more interest income is available for our Shelter Drive charities.
REBGV Realtors distributed $27,000 evenly among our three 2022-23 charities and invested $7,000 in the Vancouver Foundation charitable fund. Investment income from this fund is earmarked for future charitable donations.

Clearing a path to home ownership – BC legislative committee listens to and quotes REBGV
The BC legislative committee quoted REBGV's affordability recommendations in a recent budget report. Three key recommendations we made were to review the Property Transfer Tax (PTT), create exemptions for flipping tax, and increase rental supply.
The committee acknowledged our input on PTT thresholds, first-time homebuyers' exemption, PTT revenue use, and exemptions for moving and new home construction.

Milestone years and Medallion Club teams
Earlier this year, we announced changes to our Medallion Club policies to align with the BC Financial Services Authority’s (BCFSA’s) new definitions and structures for real estate teams.
Under these new rules, all real estate teams must register with BCFSA. You’re considered a team if you engage in a business practice as a group of two or more licensees from the same brokerage in a way that would imply an agency relationship with clients.
The new Medallion teams rules mean that team members can no longer qualify in the individual category, nor accrue Medallion “years”.
We will, however, make a one-time exception in the 2023 qualifying year to recognize team members who achieve a Medallion milestone designation under the previous rules. A milestone designation is defined as any 5-year designation, i.e., 5-year qualification, 10-year, 15-year etc.
